Don Appleby was an H-Model Flight Engineer at the 20th SOS and served in Vietnam. On July 18, 1989, at approximately 1:30 AM, MSgt Appleby was driving his 1983 Ford truck north on State Road 85 near Redstone Avenue in Crestview, FL. An oncoming vehicle pulled through a median cut directly in front of him. He was treated at North Okaloosa Medical Center, then airlifted via Southflight helicopter to West Florida Regional Medical Center in Pensacola, where he underwent emergency surgery. He succumbed to his injuries two days later on July 20, 1989.
Don is buried at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.
