Dan Reed

Dan Reed of Burlington Iowa, formerly of Lake Orion, died suddenly on February 13, 2023 after a 20 year battle with Type 1 Diabetes. Dan was born in Detroit on June 21, 1973 to David and Donna (McCalley) Reed.

Dan graduated from lake Orion High School class of 1992. He was Baptized and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Orion. Dan Joined the United State Air Force in March of 1993 and proudly served his country for 8 years as a MH53 Heavy Lift Helicopter Mechanic. He was given a medical discharge due to becoming a Type 1 Diabetic at the age of 29. Dan served in New Mexico, South Korea and Florida. After discharge from the Air Force, Dan settled down in Burlington, Iowa and worked a variety of jobs, most recently for Big River Resources where he became a Team Leader after just 3 months on the job. He loved all sports, especially golf, bowling and boating. He was a true blue University of Michigan fan. Dan and his brother Dave attended many Michigan football games both home and away. One of his favorite pastimes was giving his Iowa Hawkeye friends grief every time they would play each other.

Dan is survived by his daughter McKenna Forbes of Topeka, Kansas; his father David L. (Jane) Reed of Lapeer; brother David M.; sister Deborah; nephew Hunter; step-brother Deron (Megan) Hackney and step-sisters Rhonda (Mark) Hervey and Cheryl (Tim) Russell. Dan was preceded in death by his mother Donna Rowe and all of his grandparents.

A memorial service for Dan was held Friday March 3, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. A private graveside service with Military Honors was held at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Memorial contributions may be made to a Diabetes Charity of your choice.
